Being vegan means a compassion for animals, regard for personal health, and hope for a more sustainable world environment. Breastfeeding is not only the healthiest choice a mother can make for her infant, it's also in keeping with many values vegans uphold! It is possible for an infant to be incompatible with the mother's milk due to various health reasons. However, it is also true that FDA regulated soy infant formulas exist as an alternative to those based on cow's milk. ( http://www.fda.gov/fdac/reprints/breastfed.html ) These parents did not educate themselves on appropriate ways of caring for their child.
